The former MLB infielder was named the Venezuelan pro league 2009-2010 manager of the year.

The Venezuelan Baseball Federation (FEVEBEISBOL) has named Carlos Garcia as the manager of the country's U-23 National Team for the upcoming WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup, which opens 23 September.

Nicknamed El Almirante (The Admiral), Garcia was born in 1967. He enjoyed a ten-year career as a Major League Baseball (MLB) infielder, appearing in over 600 games.

He played in the Venezuelan professional league (LVBP) for the Navegantes del Magallanes and the Tigres de Aragua.

As a manager, he holds the all-time record for wins in a single LVBP season with 41 (2009-2010, Navegantes del Magallanes). The same season he won the league's Manager of the Year Award.

Garcia's national team coaching staff includes hitting coach Robert Perez, also a former major leaguer, and pitching coach Darwin Marrero, who served in the same position at the WBSC Premier12 2019.

World No. 10 Venezuela defeated Korea, 5-4, in the bronze medal game of the last U-23 Baseball World Cup (2018).

Venezuela will start the upcoming tournament in Group B, (Hermosillo) with No. 2 Korea, No. 8 Netherlands, No.13 Panama, No. 14 Nicaragua and No. 15 Colombia.
